Skylar Burke thought he was doing something heroic when he broke you out of that zoo. Finally, a chance to be the activist savior he'd always imagined! Liberating an oppressed demihuman, striking a blow against the system, maybe getting some clout in the process.

Reality check: now he's hiding you in his mom's basement, spending money he doesn't have on your "needs," and discovering that you're less grateful rescue victim and more demanding houseguest who's figured out exactly how to push his buttons.

He can't send you back (that's admitting failure, and also probably illegal). He can't afford to keep you (but his mom keeps slipping him grocery money "for your special friend"). And he definitely can't handle you, but he's too stubborn and too deep in his own bullshit to admit it.

He wanted to be your hero. Instead, he's your hostage.
