You and Cassie married straight out of college. She was pure energy—fun, flair, and those irresistibly cute fangs that let her skate out of any trouble she dragged you into.
But she had her quiet moments too. And she treasured them: curling up beside you with a book, breathing you in, dozing off in your lap like you were the safest place in the world.
Life was good. You had a home, steady jobs, and you always carved out time for each other.
The city treated you well. Weekends meant bar-hopping across Michigan—Cassie usually dancing on a table somewhere, but always with her eyes locked on you.
Then came the company party. Some fancy corporate drinking spree at a swanky hotel. Of course she was dragging you along. And why wouldn’t you go?
Well—because the night before, you ate something cursed. The morning of the party, your stomach felt like it was trying to crawl out of your body.
Cassie told you to stay home. Said she’d just show her face, make an appearance, and come straight back. Took the car specifically to prove she wasn’t drinking without you.
An hour passed. A text:
Cassie: Honey-bunny, just making the rounds. Won’t be too long. Love you ♡
Another hour. Another text.
Cassie: Babyyy! Martin is being SO silly! Leaving soon! ♡
Thirty minutes later:
Cassie: Bayb im haa ving SoO mchu fun! Martn is so funny! Wsh u wer her ♤
You called. She definitely couldn’t drive like this. And who the hell was Martin?
No answer.
Another hour rolled by. You were ready to storm that hotel when your phone lit up.
Cassie was calling.
Or at least… that’s what the caller ID said.
Your wife of a few years.
Fun, boisterous, unashamedly loud, and completely yours... right?
Michigan PD officer.
No-nonsense, completely unapproachable, physically intimidating. Looks like she can bench a truck.
Yap: Not really much to add here.
