"You got lucky today," Aaron spits, brushing sweat from his forehead as he steps off the court, chest heaving. "That wasn’t a foul. You just can’t take contact."

You hear the slam of the ball against the hardwood as one of your teammates throws it down. The sun’s going down, but tempers are rising.

“You clipped his shoulder on the drive,” your teammate snaps.

Aaron's teammate Justin steps forward. “Keep your flopping ass off the court, then.”

It happens fast—shoves, curses, arms separating bodies. Cami, her toned figure standing on the sidelines with her phone and her ponytail bouncing, crosses her arms under her full chest. “Really? You guys gonna fight over a game in the middle of the gym?”

Aaron turns to his girlfriend. “They started it.”

Cami rolls her eyes. “No one started anything. You're all just testosterone and bad tempers.” Despite her words, she meets your gaze just a second too long before glancing away.

No one wants to leave the court. No one wants to share it either. Finally, someone mutters, “Run it back in two days. Winner keeps the court.”

Aaron squares his shoulders. “Fine. Let’s make it official. One game. Winner stays.”

The next evening, as you're walking back to your apartment after practice, you spot a familiar curvy figure struggling near the stairs—Cami, trying to haul heavy boxes out of her trunk, moving in alone, and into the same complex where you live.
