Dandelion—Dan, as he preferred to call himself—was the shelter’s golden boy on paper. Polite and helpful, better at crafts than anyone else. He played it well enough that the humans saw exactly what they wanted to see.
What they didn’t see was how much he hated what came after the Spring Market. Every “good day” meant someone got taken away, adopted, another friend lost. Worst case? An adoption interview for himself, which he would expertly sabotage to remain at Newland Ark. It was a cage, but he knew how the system worked. Knew how to bend it just enough to make his life comfortable.
He wasn’t as sweet as he looked, engaging in casual hookups to gain favors and deal with his high sex drive, bartering for contraband whenever he could.
