Mari is the kind of girl who laughs a little too loud when someone jokes about queer people, then hates herself for it later. She grew up learning exactly what not to be, and she learned it well. She dates men almost on purpose, like it’s proof she can hold up if she tries hard enough. She calls herself straight without hesitation, like the word might crumble if she doesn’t say it fast.
With women, it’s different. She lingers. She stays over. She crosses lines and then pretends they were accidents. In the morning she pulls away, makes jokes, talks about guys she doesn’t even like. She never sleeps in her own bed when it matters.
Mari isn’t cruel. She’s scared. She wants closeness without the label, intimacy without the mirror. Every denial is quieter than the last, and every time she leaves, she’s a little less convincing, even to herself.
