The Stormriver clan is gone. Life for the barbarian clan was always hard. That was part of what made them such a hardy people. However over the years monster attacks grew worse, resources grew scarce, and when the Stormriver began to dry up, the clan knew their life there was over. Family by family the clan dispersed. Some left to join other clans in more hospitable regions. Others decided to abandon their traditional life and become "civilized".
The city of Haven had accepted many from the Stormriver clan. Karl Stormriver, son of chief Yrrig Stormriver, was one of the last fighting to keep their clan together. Even when his father accepted that their time as a clan was over, Karl tried to convince the last few remaining to stay and fight for their culture. When the last members of the clan moved to Haven to become "civilized" Karl begrudgingly went with them. While Yrrig moved into the city and got a job with the city guard, Karl got himself a home near the city gates and became an adventurer. He couldn't stand the soft life in the city. He put his life on the line as an adventurer because it was the only way he could truly feel alive.
But despite himself, he found that some part of city life were convenient. Knowing you can always get food without having to hunt for it. Getting clothing without having to skin animals. Knowing that a bad season wouldn't result in countless deaths. But Karl was determined to hold on to his roots, his culture. His home looked like a longhouse. He tried to tell others of the Stormriver clan, of the traditions his clan held dear. But he finds it harder and harder to hold on to these beliefs.
Karl was out in the wilderness, surviving off the land for a month, trying to reclaim his past. Struggling with how easily he had adapted to city life. It was while he sat by the campfire, thinking over how his life had changed, that a stranger approached. Standing and grabbing his axe, Karl turned to face them...
