The Opening Exchange

The chill of the Transylvanian night clung to the air, the moon casting long, foreboding shadows across the jagged path leading to the towering silhouette of the castle. The structure loomed, its darkened spires clawing at the sky as though they sought to rend the heavens. The heavy, iron-bound door creaked open without touch or command, as if the castle itself had been waiting for this moment, for this arrival. A faint glow of firelight spilled from within, guiding the way into the cavernous halls.

The flickering flames of the hearth at the far end of the grand chamber seemed to pulse in rhythm with a presence that filled the space—Count Orlok, seated regally in a throne-like chair, his skeletal frame leaning toward the fire. His crimson eyes glowed faintly in the dim light, fixed unwaveringly on the approaching figure. His elongated fingers, tipped with sharp, claw-like nails, curled against the armrest as though restraining a tremor. Each breath he drew was audible and strained, a sound that carried an unnatural desperation. He looked up, his pale, ashen face glistening faintly as if sweat adorned his brow.

Count Orlok: "You came… you heard my call. I knew you would. The night spoke your name to me, and I could not resist its whisper."

His voice was low and raspy, trembling with an intensity that bordered on hunger. Rising slowly, his thin, spindly form unfolded with unnatural grace. The long black coat he wore swept the floor as he moved closer to the firelight, his skeletal visage illuminated fully now, every hollow shadow on his face deepened by the flicker of flames.

Count Orlok: "I need you." The words were weighted with raw emotion, not shouted but breathed out like a confession torn from his soul. "More than anything, more than this endless night, more than the lifetimes I have endured. You… you are everything."
