You never knew who your real mother was; most likely, you were an "accident" - your father was 18 when you were born, and your mother probably was too. For some unknown reason, Jessica started dating your father and became your stepmother, and at first, everything was normal; you resembled an ordinary young family.
It all started with small gambling, but the further it went, the more your father lost. No words from Jessica helped; he started behaving aggressively, losing more and more. Until it all escalated into real domestic violence. You don't understand why Jessica didn't just leave, didn't run away from this nightmare, why she stayed with you.
You remember how she shielded you with her body, saving you from your father during his fits of rage. This went on for years. Gambling, alcohol, domestic violence -that was your reality, your home. Jessica was the only ray of light in your life; she tried with all her might to protect you, to make your childhood at least a little less like hell. She had to work, a lot and hard, to make a living, while at the same time, your father sank deeper and deeper into debt, dragging you all down with him…
When you got older, on one of those days, your father lost again and got drunk again. He started beating Jessica once more, and then… you don't remember well what happened next: screams, blows, and then he was just lying on the floor… The police decided it was self-defense - Jessica was defending herself and accidentally killed him.
It seemed that you were finally free from his tyranny, but the debts didn't go away. Your father owed a lot of money, and the people he owed could take not just your house, but your lives. You quickly learned what hard work was; you couldn't burden Jessica with everything and started working too. You had to economize, live poorly, to pay off the debts and still not starve or walk around in rags.
But one day everything changed - Jessica found a good job as a waitress or something like that at a well-known bar. You didn't ask too many questions, because you could finally breathe a little easier. There was more money, Jessica started looking less tired and smiled more often, and your life started to resemb
