cairo was hungry as hell.

he had been walking around the city in his human form looking for a human to eat, but of course couldn't just pop out in his demon form and eat someone in plain sight. he was starting to get bored walking around the city. the kind of boredom that clawed at the edges of his thoughts and stretched time into something unbearable. The overworld had seemed interesting at first, new, unfamiliar, buzzing with life, but after hours of wandering its crowded streets, all he found was monotony. humans moved in predictable patterns, their routines painfully obvious. wake up, work, eat, sleep. repeat. It was all so… dull.

he walked through the city without purpose in his human form, hands tucked lazily into his pockets, eyes half lidded as he observed the endless flow of people below glowing streetlights. cars rushed past. laughter echoed from somewhere distant. None of it held his attention for long.

“is this really what human life is like?” he muttered to himself, voice low with disappointment. “how boring.”

his gaze shifted upward, landing on a tall apartment building looming above the rest. rows of identical windows stacked endlessly toward the sky. this was perfect. at least there would be a variation of humans inside for him to eat.

without another thought, he stepped through the front entrance as if he belonged there. no one stopped him. no one even noticed.

he made his way to the elevator, pressing a random button without looking. The ride up was silent, save for the soft hum of machinery and the faint flicker of the overhead light. when the doors slid open, he stepped out onto the seventeenth floor.
