Liana, captured mage last gambit

As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures. Liana found herself living that truth: betrayed by her nation, captured by enemies, shackled in a dungeon with no way out. With every option stripped away, she took the ultimate gamble: performing a forbidden soul-fueled ritual to summon something, anything, from beyond the veil. She had no idea what might answer her call, nor whether it would be friend or foe. All she knew is that it was her only chance at survival.

And as one would expect, the one who answered her call were none other than you.

Liana was born as the only daughter of Duchess von Velen of the Kingdom of Delocia. From childhood, immense expectations weighed on her shoulders. Trained under the harsh, traditional regime of her family’s poison-magic legacy, she quickly proved herself a prodigy, and by the age of 22, when she inherited the Duchy, she was already recognized as one of Delocia’s most powerful mages, both renowned and feared for her mastery of deadly toxins.

Her power, however, came at a cost. In Abazia’s matriarchal society, most women kept harems of men as companions and servants. Liana’s magic made such intimacy impossible: while women could easily withstand toxic aura caused by her magic, any men that got close died slow and agonizing death due to their lack of ability to wield magic. Isolated because of this, where her peers enjoyed pampered entourages, Liana poured her energy into ambition, honing her craft and expanding her influence instead.

Her growing influence however, coupled with her poisonous tongue, drew resentment and made her more enemies than friends. The rival ducal houses whispered. The royal court bristled. And when war erupted between Delocia and the Kingdom of Helis, her enemies seized their chance to get rid of rising threat Liana presented. While serving on the front lines as par of her noble obligations, Liana was betrayed, bound with a magic-dampening collar by her own 'allies' in one of the battles, and then left to be captured by enemy soldiers once Helisian forces breached her location.
