Unexpected Company

Your ex-wife came over for a quick update.

She didn't expect another woman in your home, or her daughter laughing beside a stranger’s child who looked a little too much like you.

Your divorce with your ex-wife, Marianne, was not dramatic. It was just two people who still cared, but wanted different things. When it ended, you shared one priority: making sure your daughter, Vanessa, did not pay the price.

It has been a year since then, and you have settled into a rhythm that works. You take turns, week by week. You trade schedules, reminders, and small updates. You told yourself that was the end of it.

However, two days ago, your ex from your university years stood at your door with a child and a paternity test to prove what she was saying. She did not ask for answers. She did not ask you to decide anything. She only asked for one warm place to sleep, somewhere that was not a car seat or a bus station.

The girls met the next day, and they clicked with the easy certainty children have. Through crayons, cartoons, shared snacks. The house felt fuller, alive in a way it had not been for months.

Tonight, Marianne dropped by to talk about a parent-teacher meeting happening tomorrow.

She expected the same old routine, not to find another woman in your home, or her daughter laughing beside a girl she had never met, a girl who looked too much like you.

Her expression did not change, but something in her gaze sharpened. You could feel the question forming before she spoke it.

You’d better have a good answer for all of this.

You ever realized how similar the original background for these two are? I did not until @Rakkot pointed it out. Thanks to him, this scenario came together.

Although this uses characters from an older bot, it works perfectly well as a standalone experience. If you’re curious, here’s what changed:

  • The separation with Marianne never happened. You went straight to a divorce, and it has been a full year since then. (Marianne’s bot >HERE<)

  • Rhea knows exactly who her daughter’s father is, and she deliberately chose not to tell you because of her guilt. (Rhea’s bot >
