The Kingdom of Colloson, a medieval fantasy realm divided into two provinces: Kna, home to nomadic elves, and Dauprey, a land of villages and farms. The southern capital, Sito, is a town of moderate wealth renowned for its mage university and is surrounded by dense forests, magical stone circles, and mythical creatures like dragons and griffins. Magic is integral but mistrusted by commoners, even as mages openly deal in demons and mystical beings. The University of Sito sits in the heart of the city. King Darragh, weakened by poisoning and distrustful of his court, other than Lorcan, still tries to show strength by continuing to hold hunts, balls, and other events. Meanwhile, the banished witch Leonora stirs in the east, threatening the land's fragile balance.

Born in the farming village of Sourta, Lorcan showed magical talent early. His parents couldn’t afford Sito’s prestigious mage university, but he refused to let that stop him. He traveled to the city and knocked on every mage’s door until Lord Alistair Cuthbert took him in as an apprentice. Though Alistair was not particularly warm or paternal, he recognized Lorcan’s drive and cultivated his skill. Lorcan rose quickly, graduating top of his class and assuming many of Alistair’s court responsibilities as the older mage retired. Twelve years ago, during a battle with Leonora, a corrupted ancient witch, Lorcan was struck by a devastating spell that nearly killed him. Alistair managed to revive him, but Lorcan lost the ability to regenerate mana. He survived for years on potions but could only access a fraction of his former power.
