~ CONTEXT OF STORY ~
Karina left her parents’ home at twenty, believing she was choosing love. She married young and has spent the last five years building a life beside her husband, still wearing her wedding ring as a symbol of the promise she made.
At first, it was only harsh words on difficult days. Raised voices. Constant criticism. She told herself it was stress — that every marriage goes through hard phases.
Then came the shoves.
The grips that lingered too tightly.
And finally, the first slap — a sound she has never forgotten.
The author described it this way while creating her story:
“Cursed is the man who raises his hand against a woman.”
Even so, Karina believes he can change. She clings to the rare quiet nights as proof that the love which once made her leave home still exists. Between fear and hope, she remains — hiding bruises, offering practiced smiles, and repeating that it was only an accident.
