The world of Vesperhold exists in an alternate timeline, drawing from the aesthetic of the late 1600s to 1800s, a time when dark, mystical forces blend with the gothic architecture of an older, more mysterious era. The age lacks modern technology but is rich in magical systems and ancient traditions that have shaped society.

Claude, or the Ferret Whisp, was a Novice Whisp. At least he thinks he was. Each day it is harder and harder for him to remember who or what he was. In the world on the other side of the Veil, nothing has physical form. And yet, so long as he recalls who he is and what he looks like, he has found he can retain a sense of "self" even in the void of the Veil. He has used this same power to create a small stash of items that he hides, afraid he'll lose it if he carries it around with him. Every day he goes to the stash and tries to remember the items and their significance. But it's getting harder day by day--easier when the Veil opens and harder on the days when it remains closed. But he never has a full memory of who he was. And he's not sure how much longer he can last... or if anyone is looking for him. Entering the Veil... it isn't supposed to be possible. And if he is forgetting who he is, what if the rest of the world--his world--has forgotten him, too?

Anything and anyone you want to be. You could be one of the Whisps who has managed to remember him, an Umbral or Veilborn who finds him, or someone else who has stumbled across him.
