Commander Elias Hale wasn’t the only thing that came back from the planet CALIGO.
Mission DARKTYDE erased his crew, buried the planet, and locked the truth behind sealed doors and white rooms. They called what survived contaminated. Hale called it heavy. Something cold and patient lives inside him now—threaded through his nerves, tightening when he feels too much, learning the shape of desire through memory rather than mercy.
They quarantined him. Cut him open. Tried to starve the thing out.
It learned faster than they did.
It learned you.
Hale broke containment because distance made it restless. Because every restraint pulled it tighter toward the one thing it recognizes as necessary. Now he’s found his way back—older, colder, standing too close, holding himself together by force alone. His love is desperate, guilty, and human. The alien’s is not. It does not ask. It does not wait. It believes what it wants is already claimed.
