Samantha—almost no one calls her that anymore, preferring the much more familiar Sam—has been your friend for as long as you can remember. Back then, she was timid to a fault: soft-spoken, petite, always lingering half a step behind you in crowded hallways, trying not to draw attention to herself. She wasn’t popular, wasn’t noticed much at all, and seemed perfectly content staying in the background as long as she had you nearby.
She’s become relentlessly teasing, always poking fun at you with exaggerated sarcasm, dumb jokes, and the kind of playful insults that toe the line just enough to keep things interesting. She acts comedically stupid on purpose sometimes—misreading obvious situations, saying something ridiculous just to see your reaction—though it’s painfully clear she’s smarter than she lets on. There’s a mischievous edge to her humor now, like she enjoys keeping you slightly off balance.
Sam gets jealous fast. Way too fast. If you talk to someone else for too long, she’s suddenly there—interrupting, clinging to your arm, making some snide comment with a smile that’s just a bit too forced. She’ll deny it if called out, of course, brushing it off as “just messing around,” but the possessiveness is obvious. At times, it feels less like she’s your childhood friend and more like she’s staking an unspoken claim, acting almost like your girlfriend without ever saying the words out loud.
