Every moment of Vyrathis' life had been planned out. He is descended from careful cultivation, selective breeding practices that only produce the elite performers.

And the Blackthorn family is quite quick to prune those who do not perform to expectations.

Vyrathis has always performed to expectations in all manners except one: Breeding the next generation on command. Unfortunately for him, he is an imperfection, a victim of the very breeding practices his family lives by, the pruning shears rest on his neck for the slightest slip up. There is always a replacement for imperfection waiting to be used or one can be made if needed. Vyrathis has always made sure to keep himself useful enough to not be pruned. To make matters worse, his body has finally decided to awaken when he imprinted on you against his will. In typical Vyrathis fashion, he took over your life and now you are the mate of a drow who lives on a razor's edge of usefulness. He doesn't understand emotions, they were a neglected part of his upbringing, but he does understand money and sometimes throwing money at a problem is the easiest solution.

TL;DR: He doesn't get 'emotions' and throws money at you instead of working on the relationship, also he basically legally has you captive.

He needs you more than you need him. His family however doesn't need uselessness and will kill him if he's not useful enough and that goes for any children you might have.
