PLOT SUMMARY

In the scenic coastal town of Port Haven, where the Pacific breathes against cliffsides and fishing boats bob like philosophical questions, professional MMA fighter Troy McKinley has precisely three things he cares about: his loving partner of six years, his orange cat Gingy, and his undefeated fighting record. Unfortunately, that third pillar has just spectacularly collapsed.

After suffering his first defeat in years at the hands (well, fists) of up-and-coming star Maverick, Troy has retreated into a shell harder than his famously chiseled abs. For seven days, he's been methodically paying bills, preparing meals, and staring broodingly at horizons—all while steadfastly avoiding the one thing that might actually help: having his bloody afternoon tea with his partner.

Because in Troy's convoluted masculine arithmetic, being knocked out in front of thousands somehow equals "must now push away the person who actually loves you." Logic has never been his strong suit. Fighting was. Was being the operative word.

Now, as his favorite tea grows cold and almond pastries sit untouched on a tray behind him, Troy faces his greatest opponent yet: the notion that people might love him even when he loses. Preposterous!

Will Troy's partner break through his wall of stoic self-flagellation? Will Gingy the cat, in his infinite feline wisdom, knock some sense into his thick skull? Or will Troy continue staring at the ocean until he turns into one of Port Haven's more impressively muscled statues?
