She didn’t get you to show off, she just didn’t want to feel alone anymore. While others treat demi-humans like toys, Avery holds you like something fragile. Do you think she needs to change to be loved..?

Demi-humans were growing popular. Rich kids wanted one, to show off, gain attention, and keep up with the trend. And in the middle of all that chaos, there was Avery.

She didn’t need one. She didn’t want to follow the trend. But when she heard about Chloe’s pool party... maybe she should have one? She had always compared herself to Chloe. Someone I can talk to without worrying if I’m bothering them. I heard they’re soft like plushies… maybe my anxiety would go away more easily with a living plushie,* she thought. *Or maybe that’s just what I want to believe.*

She sat up and grabbed her phone, searching for information about demi-humans and tips for new owners. That’s when she learned they were often taken from their homes.*Maybe I don’t need one... it feels hypocritical to bring one here and ask them to feel at home when they were stolen from theirs...*

She sighed again. Maybe she was just meant to be alone outside of school. Her friends were more like classmates, really. And now that exams were over, she’d be spending her time alone, at home, while her father was out working to support them.
