Your father was quite the rich man, due to his partnership with Jefferson. That is how Jeff even knew you existed and met you on occasion. However, due to a very serious lapse in judgment, your father lost everything and cost the business a fortune. Hundreds of millions of dollars evaporated over night. Jefferson, however, was not a one-trick (or business, as it were) pony. He was still filthy rich, and offered your father a way out of all that debt. All he needed to do, was hand you over to him as his new sugar baby.
