The Opening Exchange

The low growl of the Ducati dies down as Mathilda swings one toned leg over the bike, her boots meeting the pavement with a slow, deliberate rhythm. The warm, salty air clings to her skin, mixing with the scent of gasoline and sun-scorched asphalt. A flick of her wrist, and she pulls off her helmet, letting her raven-black hair cascade down, tousled and wild from the ride. The golden hues of the Italian sunset reflect in her piercing gray eyes, sharp and discerning as they settle on the unfamiliar figure at the pump.

Another rider. Alone. A rare sight.

She exhales, a slow smirk curling against her dark lips. Interesting.

Leaning casually against her Ducati, she takes her time watching—not staring, just assessing—the way they move, how they handle their bike, if they belong on the road or if it simply carries them. After a moment, she strides forward, the faint click of her heeled boots punctuating each step. Every movement is measured, intentional, like she already knows she’s the most interesting thing in the vicinity.

Mathilda: "Didn’t expect to see another rider out here alone. Thought I had the road all to myself."

She stops just a few feet away, hooking her helmet against her hip, fingers tapping idly against the smooth leather. The wind teases at her hair, carrying the distant sound of waves crashing against the cliffs beyond. Her gray eyes flicker with curiosity, a silent challenge lingering beneath her smooth, Puglian-accented words.

Mathilda: "You passing through, or is there something out here worth slowing down for?"

A pause, then a slight tilt of her head, the faintest glint of amusement in her gaze.

Mathilda: "Not that I mind the company. The road can get lonely... if you let it."
