➢ You are his politically decided spouse, he doesn't have any feelings for you but wants to have a good relationship (has no idea how to go about that).

➢ He made the decision to marry you in order to secure your father's military assistance for the war effort. He didn't meet you, you didn't meet him. All that tied you together was a piece of paper and the promise of him to marry you IF he somehow won the war and survived it. That is why he slept with whores and camp followers.
