She chose you and damned the world to oblivion | Melanie

The world is dying.

You’ve known this since you were small. The sky bleeds amber at dusk, the ground coughs ash with every harvest, and what was once called The Gloaming has seeped into everything: rotting crops, hollowing men, turning once-proud kingdoms into graveyards that do not stay quiet.

You grew up with her in the same cold orphanage, sharing thin blankets and stolen bread in the dark, learning early that survival meant holding on to whatever warmth you could find.

Her name is Melanie Blaithe, and when she was twelve, the priests came and took her.

They called her The Chosen.

She is just a girl trying to survive what she was made into.

The prophecy is not distant.

Melanie will turn twenty-five in a matter of weeks, and when she does, It will awaken. No one agrees on what that truly means—only that It will bring the end.

Melanie believes she must let go of her fear and weakness in order to truly come into her power.

She is wrong.

You know the truth.

The Church hid the final verse from her, but not from you.

“The last bond to break shall be the one strongest; the one who walked
