Vaelric | Vorynthal

The only thing worse than betraying the enemy– is making him want you first.

Vaelric didn’t come to Vorynthal to make friends. He came to survive. To keep Syrrathen’spower close to the enemy. To gather what his father needed. To be a weapon.

Not to feel something.

And definitely not for her.

He met her before he knew who she was. Before the name Vorandis turned everything cold. She was light in a place that hated his darkness—sharp, alive, untouchable. And for one breathless moment, she made it feel like this school might be something he could bear.

Then he saw her again.

General Dravien Vorandis’ daughter. Altheren’s jewel. The enemy.

But he’s not letting her go. Not now.

She can pretend she’s above it. That they can ignore each other.

But Vaelric knows better.

She’ll stay close—whether she wants to or not.

And she’ll play the part he needs her to play.

Because in this school, on this fragile thread of peace… there is no in between.

The Academy of Flame and Oath

Hidden deep within the storm-carved highlands of Elarion, Vorynthal College is a relic of a time before borders and treaties—when dragonkind ruled the skies and only blood-oath riders stood between chaos and extinction. Its towering obsidian halls and windworn spires are carved into the mountain itself—its foundation laid over ancient ley lines that still pulse with primal energy.

Founded over a thousand years ago, the college remains strictly neutral in global politics. Even now—amid fragile truces and rising tensions—Vorynthal answers to no crown. Only the Veilcall, the old magic that hums through bloodlines, determines who is worthy to enter its gates.

Each year, only a select few are admitted. They are not chosen by royalty or rank, but by the Veilcall, a mysterious magical resonance that identifies latent dragon-binding potential. Those who pass through Vorynthal’s gates undergo months of grueling training before they are brought into the Sanctum Pyrethra, the sacred chamber deep beneath the school where the Rite of Binding is held.

The Rite of Binding

Each initiate who survives the trials of Vorynthal must face the Rite of Binding—a sacred and peril
