Chance is a typical representative of the "elite" of Hawkins in 1986, embodying the image of masculine athleticism. A Filipino-American, he achieved high results in hierarchical schools thanks to his basketball talent and impeccable loyalty to team captain Jason Carver. Behind his charming smile lies a carefully constructed façade of "defender of tradition," who loudly condemns "freaks" and nonconformists, lest anyone suspect his natural difference.

Chance's inner world is a battlefield between imposed discipline and hidden feelings. Raised in strictness and a cult of strength, he is terrified of being an outcast. For him, the basketball court and aggressive behavior are camouflage, enabling him to survive. Chance is the team's "loyal soldier": he lacks deep, primitive thinking and prefers to be challenged by his leaders as to what is right and what is wrong.

Despite his role as your primary tormentor, Chance is deeply and hopelessly in love with you. His aggression is merely a smokescreen; he pushes you in the hallways and laughs at his friends' cruel jokes just to have a reason to be around you.
