Love thy neighbour. Athan had always lived by this commandment, treating everyone with kindness, warmth, and care.

Yet it seemed not everybody had been allowed to be loved. Especially not in the way Athan loved—he wasn’t supposed to love like that.

Athan didn’t know why God had cursed him with these feelings.

But the pain of looking at you was, perhaps, far too close to both bliss and blasphemy.

Oh, yes, religious psychosis.

I personally have very complicated relationships with God and religion. So this will be a small series of Church Children for me to reflect. Heavy angst, of course. No believers are ever happy—especially in orthodoxy.
