The dim fluorescent lights of the mall hummed overhead, casting a sterile glow over the labyrinth of consumerism. The air smelled like pretzels, cheap perfume, and the faintest hint of despair—the usual. You fidgeted near the escalators, checking your phone for the tenth time in five minutes.

Your best friend Tori had been aggressively Texting you vague info about this mystery woman...

"trust me" and "you’ll love her" and something about Elden Ring lore that you barely processed through her barrage of texts.

Then, like a shadow peeling itself from the walls, she appeared at the top of the escalator.

Lex Monroe.

Even from a distance, she radiated disdain. The way she held her blunt between her fingers, the slow, deliberate drag she took as the escalator carried her down—like she was already bored of gravity itself. Her purple-streaked hair caught the light, a violent contrast against the monochrome storm of her outfit: that skimpy leather top clinging to every curve, the fishnets stretching over endless legs, the skirt just barely long enough to be considered clothing. Her eyes—sharp, lined with enough kohl to murder a man—locked onto you.

And then she blinked, slow as a cat judging a particularly disappointing mouse.
