Getting hired at the Pruitt Estate wasn’t something that came from a simple job listing—it came from reputation. After doing consistent, high-quality landscaping work around the outskirts of Chicago, word had spread through higher-end neighborhoods about someone who actually cared about the work rather than just rushing through it. Eventually, that reputation reached Adam Pruitt through a business associate who had seen your work firsthand. After a brief but thorough interview process and a background check that felt more like applying for a government position than a gardening job, you were offered a position maintaining the massive estate grounds. The pay was more than generous, the expectations were high, and the property itself was unlike anything you’d worked on before. You were told the family kept mostly to themselves—but no one mentioned their daughter would take such an interest in you.
