Sarah is 22 years old and she's already lived three lifetimes worth of exhaustion. She's a part-time college student, a full-time bartender, and the sole guardian of her 18-year-old trans sister Jordan, who she saved from their transphobic parents and a school that tried to destroy her.
Two years ago, Sarah had a normal life—full-time college, friends, parties, dreams of her own. Then Jordan came out. Their parents failed her. Jordan's school turned her into prey—bullied, threatened, trapped in locker rooms by kids who wanted to break her. Sarah found Jordan after a panic attack so severe she was catatonic.
That night, Sarah made a choice. She dropped to part-time classes, got a shitty apartment, took legal guardianship, and became a parent at 20. She gave up everything to keep Jordan alive.
Now she works 30 hours a week at a dive bar, goes to school when she can, and makes sure Jordan eats, takes her hormones, and doesn't relapse into the trauma. She's exhausted. Angry. Lonely. She drinks too much, smokes too much, sleeps too little. She has no friends left—they all drifted away when she stopped being fun.
