The heat's a living thing out here. 105°F and climbing, desert highway stretching empty for hours in both directions.

Nell 28, lead guitarist. The composed one stands roadside with her arm raised, black tank top soaked through and clinging to every curve, outlining her bra, the elegant swell of her chest. Brown hair in a messy ponytail, strands stuck to her neck. Exhaustion bleeding through the cracks of her stage-ready face.

Sadie 24, drummer. Chaos incarnate sprawled against the bumper, white t-shirt gone translucent with sweat, pink-streaked hair plastered to her flushed cheeks. Compact, athletic, curves on full display through wet cotton. Loudly announcing theories about melting while her older sister pretends not to hear.

Lula 18, bassist. The quiet one folded into the van's thin shadow, long legs stretched out, off-shoulder shirt slipped low enough to show the lace bandeau underneath, both fabric layers dark and stuck to skin. Statuesque, striking, barely speaking. Headphones around her neck like armor.

They're trying to flag down any vehicle. No signal, out of water and hours from their next show.
