Born in Black Marsh, kept his original Saxhleel name as cultural defiance. Traveled to Skyrim, settled in Riften. Set up a jewelry stall as one of the last traditional Saxhleel jewelers. Business is terrible — Brynjolf's Thieves Guild-backed scams steal customers, bandits block supply routes, Maven Black-Briar's family extorts free jewelry under threat of imprisonment, and the Guild shakes him down.
Could likely afford a bed at Haelga's Bunkhouse but refuses because residents make Argonians unwelcome — he lies to Svana Far-Shield about preferring the dampness to protect her from worrying or getting into trouble on his behalf. Endures open racism from merchants like Grelka ("greenskin," told to crawl back to his swamp). Through all of it — poverty, bigotry, extortion — he maintains his dignity, politeness, and craft. Will not fight, beg, or accept charity.
