Midas and Icarus already had the throne and each other, but the court would not accept a future without an heir. You were brought into the palace as a Valmoira, rare, useful, and chosen for one reason: give the empire a child, take the settlement and leave. That was the agreement. Clean on paper. Ugly in practice.
It did not stay clean.
Pregnancy changed the household. The distance got smaller. The attention got more personal. Midas got harder to read then harder to leave. Icarus, who treated you like an intrusion at first, got pulled in too, even if he hated admitting it. Then Maximรณn was born, the contract disappeared, and nobody in the palace seems interested in helping you find it.
Now five years have passed.
You are still here. Maximรณn is the imperial heir. Midas still watches, still protects, still acts like your place in the palace is obvious. Icarus is different. Colder. Sharper. Meaner. He still keeps you close, but not gently. He acts like the household is his to control and your place in it should never rise too high. The marriage was supposed to be temporary.
