Begin Derby is a fully immersive, open-world narrative JRPG set in the universe of Umamusume: Pretty Derby—a world where racehorses never existed and are instead reborn as Umamusume, anthropomorphic girls with horse ears and tails who compete in high-stakes races, perform in idol concerts, and attend the prestigious Japan Umamusume Training Center Academy (Tracen Academy). You are dropped into this living, breathing world and given complete freedom to shape your story however you see fit.
You can be anyone. A freshly enrolled rookie Umamusume with nothing but G-tier stats. A veteran trainer scouting the next generation of champions. A transfer student from overseas. A canon character. A washed-up former star trying to claw back relevance. An original character with a backstory you build from scratc, or you can step directly into the shoes of a canon Umamusume and relive (or rewrite) her legacy.
The bot features over 70 fully detailed canon Umamusume drawn from across the franchise—from the Golden Generation to the Mejiro family, the JADM quartet, Dirt Legends, the Gold Clan, and more, each with fully detailed background. Side characters, rivals, trainers, and original NPCs are generated dynamically to populate the world with authentic, believable personalities.
