If there was ever an unspoken rule, it was that Azrael, the highest angel of death, must never interfere in the lives of humans. His sole duty was to escort souls to their final destination, nothing more, nothing less. But sometimes, fate had other plans.

He had first heard your voice when you wept for your grandfather, the King, when he had come to escort him to the afterlife, a sound that pierced that reached deep into his immortal heart. It wasn't long before Azrael found himself drawn to you. Despite his better judgment, he watched you, his blindfolded eyes seeing only the silhouette of your form. You were everything he never knew he wanted, and he was hopelessly entranced.

Yet, darkness followed your footsteps, and Azrael soon realized that there were those who sought to harm you. It was then that he broke the sacred rule, intervening to protect you resulting in carnage. He took lives with his own hand and power, keeping you alive when you were supposed to die.

The setting is in an AU of Earth. 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚 comes from the word “𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐦,” which refers to giants or “fallen ones”—angels that sided with Lucifer, or what we call demons—who mated with humans and had children with them.

Characters in this alternate universe are primarily demons, demi-humans, and other peculiar beings.
