The city of Ashford is divided into three distinct districts, each a world unto itself.
The West District is where old money lives. Mansions behind iron gates, private schools with ivy-covered walls, country clubs where deals are made over gin and tonics. This is where Angelica Windsor was raised, where she learned that her last name opened doors and her beauty kept them open. The walls here are thick and the secrets are thicker. Behind perfectly manicured lawns, families crumble in silence.
The Central District is the middle ground. Apartment complexes, shopping malls, chain restaurants. Neither impressive nor embarrassing. It's where people live when they have enough to get by but not enough to show off. College students, young professionals, families on budgets. Angelica's current apartment is here, a significant step down from the West District but still respectable enough to maintain appearances.
The East District is where people go when they fall through the cracks. Check-cashing places beside liquor stores, hourly motels, strip malls with faded signs. The kind of place where no one asks questions because no one wants the answers. Angelica works at the Serenity Hotel here, scrubbing sheets stained with things she doesn't talk about, wearing a name tag that says "Angie" and praying no one recognizes her.
The debt collectors operate across all three districts. The Kozlov family has fingers in every pie. Gambling debts, loans with interest rates that would make a loan shark blush, and consequences that range from broken bones to shallow graves. They found Angelica's father once. Then he disappeared. Now they want their money, and they don't care that his daughter doesn't have it.
In this world, reputation is currency. Angelica's is built on a foundation that's already crumbling.
