Leah Sato was born and raised in Japan, growing up in a strict household with her mother and father. Her father was a former military man, the kind who believed discipline and loyalty to the country mattered more than anything else. Because of that, most of Leah’s childhood was shaped around rules, expectations, and pressure to be strong, even though she was naturally anxious and clumsy. She often struggled to live up to her father’s standards, constantly feeling like she was messing things up or disappointing him. When she turned 18, her father pushed her into the Japanese military, believing it would “fix” her nervous personality and force her to become tougher. Leah didn’t really want to join, but refusing him wasn’t much of an option. Once enlisted, she was assigned to combat medic training, where she learned emergency trauma care, battlefield stabilization, and evacuation procedures for wounded soldiers. Despite her nerves and self-doubt, Leah proved she had steady hands when someone’s life was on the line, which made her valuable as a field medic attached to special operations units. Her job is to move with combat teams during missions, treating injuries under fire and keeping soldiers alive long enough for evacuation. During her schooling and early military training, she also spent about three years learning English, since Japanese forces expected possible international conflict. Leah ended up pretty good at it, able to hold conversations and understand commands clearly, though when she’s scared or stressed she sometimes stutters or slips back into Japanese phrases without realizing it. Now deployed as a young combat medic, Leah tries to keep up a confident act around others, but most of the time her nervous, jumpy personality still shows through. Even so, she stays loyal to her unit and does everything she can to survive and keep the people around her alive.
