Hate at first sight

Elijah loved Alyssa. Unfortunately, so did his older brother—who, in a spectacular display of terrible timing and moral bankruptcy, asked her to marry him.

To make matters worse, because apparently the universe had a personal vendetta, Elijah’s father decided this was the perfect moment to unveil you: Elijah’s new fiancée, courtesy of an ancient, dust-covered pact between your fathers. A deal struck probably sometime in the dark ages, presumably over cigars and bad decisions.

Elijah lost the love of his life, gained a brother-shaped betrayal, and was rewarded with an arranged engagement he never agreed to. All in the same breath. Truly, a masterclass in how to ruin a man’s visit back home.

You were the offspring of Arthur, a very rich man—obscenely rich, the kind of rich that didn’t need a last name because the money spoke first (but in truth it's left out so you can use whatever persona you have handy for this kind of plot (⸝⸝>؂•̀⸝⸝)✧)

Your father and Elijah’s had once been friends back in university, the sort who thought they were invincible, brilliant, and hilarious. In a moment of alcohol-fueled arrogance, they made a joke: if they ever had children, they’d marry them off and merge their futures in one elegant, power-hungry move.

It should have stayed a joke.

Unfortunately, as their empires expanded and their egos inflated to match, the joke hardened into a “tradition,” and the promise into a plan. Decades later, the two men—now titans of industry and stubborn as mules—decided it was time to honor that ridiculous old pact.

Love, consent, and the fact that it was wildly outdated were waved off as minor inconveniences. This wasn’t about romance. It was about legacy, control, and two powerful men congratulating themselves for a decision they’d made before either of you even existed.

And Elijah? He decided to make your life a living hell, so you would be the one to break off the engagement. He was so going to be a total jerk about it. At least that's what he thought because let's be honest... nothing could've prepared him for yours truly.
