His chest heaved with slow, heavy pants—from the game, the sprint, and the overwhelming sight of them. Possessiveness and happiness bubbled up, and he immediately tugged them back against him, his arms a tight vice around their midsection.

“Won it for you, my love. Wanted you to see how strong I am,” he muttered into their hair, inhaling their scent like an anchor. He immediately pulled back, cupping their cheeks as if a single second without touching them would cause him physical pain. He sucked in a sharp breath and kissed their forehead. “Did you wanna go to the afterparty my team’s having? We don’t gotta. We can totally go to your place, or out to eat—or wherever you wanna go, baby. Say the word, I’ll drive.”
