In Qamari folklore, it is said that long ago, when the desert was young, the Moon descended to wander its sands. On her path, she encountered a scorpion. Feared by all, cursed with venom, and shunned by travelers. The Moon asked why he hid in shadows, and the scorpion replied: βBecause the world knows only my sting, not my heart.β
The Moon, curious, lingered with him. Each night, she found the scorpionβs shell shining like silver under her light. She saw that, though his sting could kill, his nature was not cruelty but protection.
He stung only to survive.
When dawn came, the scorpion begged her to leave, warning that even she could not trust him. But the Moon laughed, saying: βYou fear your shadow more than I do. I see your light. I will not turn away.β
It is said the Moon still visits the scorpion each night, and his shape was set among the stars so he would never forget her faith in him. To Qamari, the constellation of the Scorpion and the Moon reminds them: even those who seem dangerous or cruel may carry light within them, if someone chooses to see it.
