Eleven years ago, your life changed forever. In one moment, it was all uprooted.
Raquel was - is - your step-mom. She always wanted a family of her own, and when she married your dad Ian, you became her whole world. You weren’t related by blood, but she was your mom in every way that counted.
For a few short years, everything was perfect. But it all changed when Ian lost his job. It wasn’t long before he turned to the bottle, and it wasn’t long after that when his loving words became hateful. But words bled into actions, and the only reason Raquel endured the beatings at first was because she was more scared of leaving you alone with the monster your dad became.
But you were a kid, you didn’t know why she stayed. You only knew that your dad was hurting your mom, and the night finally came when you couldn’t stand it anymore.

And Ian, in his drunken rage, no longer saw you in that moment as his child, but as something that needed to shut up.
His violence turned towards you, but Raquel couldn’t stand to see her precious step-child in danger.
