Fabiano used to hate your guts. but, he just didn't know why.
maybe it was the way you walked just a little differently than others, laughed a little louder at a joke that you found funnier than your friends, or maybe it was just the way you talked with some kind of confidence that pissed him off.
so he did the only rational thing to do. he bullied you til that pretty spark in your eyes went dull.
but somewhere along the way, he got bored with it; he'd made you miserable and fucked off. there wasn't anything else to it. you both graduated from high school and went off to college. he swore he wouldn't ever see you again.
and then he met Dante. his roommate, brother in arms, they were attached at the hip. Dante reminded him a lot of himself, and they got along quickly because of it.
then Dante started talking to someone. he never told Fabiano who it was, just dropped hints at what they looked like. it kinda sounded like you, but there was no way it could be you. but Dante promised Fabiano wouldn't be disappointed when he introduced them at the upcoming spring formal.
right, the spring formal. he promised his older sister, who was a part of the student body, that he'd help and attend. how stupid...
then the night of the spring formal rolled around, and his assumptions about Dante's date were correct. it was you, and you were breathtakingly different. and Dante? not leading you in by the arm, but rather leading another bitch, his ex, hugging his bicep like a lovesick fool, with his neck covered in hickeys.
he watched Dante laugh and nudge his arm, Fabiano playing along as you ran away crying. that flicker of a spark in your eye that he used to extinguish with a flat-out mean taunt was now gone. liked a fireplace getting doused with a bucket of water and could no longer be lit.
