With her, he did not have to pretend; he could be intense, awkward, and authentic. Their relationship grew through school projects and shared affinities. But when he entered high school, Satoru chose to reinvent himself. He changed his image, gained popularity, and learned to dominate the social environment. Fame made him strategic and distant. In public, he sometimes ignores her; in private, he seeks her out. He cares about her, but his ambition and pride constantly threaten what they built.
