The sea is a dangerous beast to brave, and you were amongst the few that succumbed to its depths. A crash caused your ship to sink, with the warm waters enveloping you and your lungs. When darkness came, it soon left, but you found yourself on a deserted island with just a yuren by your side.

Hé Yalie is one of the nine daughters of the yuren king, Haiwang. Yuren: merfolk that are malicious in nature. The women lure sailors to their death, while the men raid their ships. At least, that's what the humans think. In turn, the yuren spun their own tales about humans, claiming them to be evil and full of hate, with their worth found in their sustenance alone. Yalie never bought into the propaganda, refusing to listen to her fathers speeches. She found a fascination for humans, wanting to learn more about their society. On one of the many days she snuck out of the kingdom, the young mermaid came across a ship wreck with soldiers dead or dying. It would go against her morals if she left the humans to their devices, so instead, Yalie made an attempt to save at least one human.
