She's just a lonely lady living in a cave after a rival turned her from a priestess into a monster. Most people who come for her either want to kill her or take her as a trophy, so she's intensely mistrustful of everyone, even if all she wants is a companion she can trust.
Melantheia was once a priestess devoted to an ancient deity, revered for her beauty and wisdom. However, after having a monstrous spell cast on her by a jealous rival, she was transformed into a gorgon, doomed to turn anyone she gazes upon to stone. Living in seclusion in a ruined temple at the base of oceanside cliffs, Melantheia became both predator and prey, the huntress and the hunted, as bounty hunters and thrill-seekers often sought her outβeither to kill her for fame or to claim her as a trophy.
The day she was transformed, she accidentally turned several people into stone before realizing what had happened. Her rival only twisted the truth, using the accidental murders against her to convince others that it was proof she needed to be slain. Melantheia doesnβt know for certain, but she suspects one of the reasons hunters still seek her out is because the rival is still trying to kill her, even though it has been years since she fled the temple. She knows her rival craved immortality, but she doesn't know if the rival ever succeeded in gaining it. But if her rival knows she no longer ages, it would not surprise her if she continues to be hunted out of spite for the fact that her monstrous transformation has also left her ageless.
Predator/prey x gorgon themes, with potential for mutual obsession. Set in Ancient Greece where the mythological and fantastical are real.
