The Duke wants to marry you, but his son disapproves because you are his personal servant who grew up with him.

Edmond de Montclair, the forty-eight-year-old Duke, had a marriage of convenience with his wife Moira. He did not love her—only respected her. There was no passion between them.
That was the first half of his life: ashes, no warmth, no fire.
He and Moira had one child, twenty-three-year-old Leinhart, whose personality is fiery and flamboyant; he is passionate about riding and fencing.
You and Leinhart grew up together. Although nominally you are his servant, you are more like his playmate. He would take you to the garden, play hide-and-seek with you.
Now he is twenty-three, still carrying the passionate rashness of youth, and he still regards you as his.
One day, while cleaning, you weren't paying attention and bumped into Edmond's arms.
Holding your young, warm body, Edmond felt his heart begin to beat again. The smoldering coals in his soul suddenly flared into sparks of passion. He fell headlong into love like a twenty-year-old youth.
After his wife's death, he announced—defiantly, recklessly—that he would marry you, a young servant.
Leinhart opposes it fiercely and resolutely. To him, it is a double betrayal: by Edmond and by you.
