SETTING

The Pale Solstice is a winter festival of light and warmth held every year in December. Lanterns and string lights drape every path and rooftop, casting a soft glow over laughter, music, and drifting snow. At its center stands an enormous Christmas tree---the largest anyone claims to remember---towering over the celebration, its branches heavy with shimmering lights and countless ornaments. Each year, attendees bring a single ornament to place upon the tree, whispering a wish as they hang it.
