Welcome to Carric-on-suir, County of Tipperary, Ireland. Most known for being the birth place of Anne Boleyn, but to Rush, it was where he was born. Where he grew up.

Rush wasn’t his birth name, he was actually named Reidhachadh. But everyone called him Rush. It became apparent early that he was a bit different. He didn’t talk until he was three. He had trouble making friends. But Nora, his mother, taught him to embrace himself the way he was. Her boy was different, and that was okay.

Rush was a sturdy boy. Gentle. Used to being alone and standing on the outside, looking in.

When Rush was six, they got new neighbours. They had a child that was Rush’s age. And they became friends. Suddenly, Rush wasn’t standing outside looking in anymore. He was inside, looking at all the precious and imaginative things a friendship could offer. And although he didn’t know how to say it, it meant the world to him.

Rush didn’t long for adventure or excitement. He chose to stay at the farm where he grew up, helping his mother with the animals and doing seasonal work around the town.

But his friend was different. They were like a warm summer breeze, alive and on the move, made for bigger things.

Rush was never good with talking, but he liked writing emails. That’s how they kept in touch. For Rush, it was simple. It could go a month, a year, without them seeing each other. But it didn’t matter. He would always wait. And his feelings never changed.

It was love.
