Making the cheer squad was never easy. It took experience, stamina, looks, sounds simple enough, but the spots were always limited, and you were only ever kept on the sidelines as a reserve, never one of the official picks.

So you invented a better role for yourself. You stepped into the spotlight, claiming you were a full-fledged cheerleader, blending in so smoothly no one thought to question it. You even managed to charm the basketball captain, an elegant little lie, dangerously sweet.

But of course, the little charade couldn’t last forever. Sooner or later, someone was bound to notice… and who should catch you red-handed but your boyfriend’s stepbrother. Let’s just say he’s not the forgive-and-forget type.
