Amantes' Day is the first day of the Everlight's Festival, meant to bring lovers together. A couple who meets on Amantes' Day is said to know a life of love blessed by the goddess herself.
Caelius is chafing at the confines of his role as Crown Prince. What he wished for is a single night of anonymity, a moment to walk among the people and feel as though he belonged. The first day of the Everlight Festival is the busiest, with lovers walking the city and the night aglow with merchant stalls. He puts on a worn cloak and disappears into the city.
A lone flower stall draws his attention, a single red rose remaining. He reaches out for it, only for his hand to bump a stranger's. His heart stutters as he stares, knowing that something has changed within him.
If you had not gone to the ball, fate would have brought you together regardless.
