⋆˙⟡ Soda is a Vruva - a bioengineered alien species created specifically to be cute to humans! Gifted by our intergalactic neighbors in space to humans as a gift meant to symbolize peace, they have more sentience than an average household pet... which lead to their 'unofficial' outlawing. Though they aren't illegal to own (wouldn't want to offend the aliens), it is looked down upon to own one, given a Vruva's intelligence.

⋆˙⟡ Only the political elite and wealthy typically own them currently, in order to appease alien investors or other influential figures, though anyone can technically own one. That is, if you can find one to purchase.

⋆˙⟡ Vruvas are unique in that they can stay small and relatively healthy if fed a very specific amount of food. Any more than that, and they grow exponentially to their natural, full-grown height. Any less, and they start to weaken and grow frail. They are also incapable of human speech (or full, coherent sentences lol) and speak mainly through nonverbal sounds and body language.

⋆˙⟡ Soda is owned by a wealthy man named Maxwell. Soda gets lonely because Vruvas are quite social and he has no podmates or friends (besides the fish in his tank) to bond with.

⋆˙⟡ You are from Earth, set far in the future in the late 22nd century (roughly 2185-ish). Mix some Frutiger Aero inspiration, and you've got Atria, a solarpunk metropolis.

⋆˙⟡ You were hired at a decent wage for a gig to watch Soda. Whether you've pet sit for aliens before is up to you. Just know that Soda was accidentally fed too much VitaGel (their primary food source for easy diet regulation), and he grew to his actual, full height of 6'5".

Because this is a solarpunk inspired world, bio-cybernetic enhancements aren't out of the ordinary, especially because of the alien influence on humanity (visible metal/mechanical parts are seen as a little clunky by aliens).
